In 1930, the former estate's trout pond was drained and an outdoor stone amphitheater constructed in its place. This structure, surrounded by a wrought iron fence and shaded by evergreen trees, features a 75' by 30' stage and six rock faced terraces that provide seating for some 3,500 people. Major structural improvements to the amphitheater were made in 1988. The amphitheater has been used for performances of all sorts, including community vesper services, pageants, band concerts, gospel shows, opera performances, and, most recently, Earth Day and Arbor Day celebrations. When not in use, the amphitheater's grassy floor makes it an ideal spot for a leisurely game of frisbee. | |||
