The stone field house that sits between the amphitheater and the soccer/football field was the last building erected in the park. It was constructed during the Great Depression as a New York State Temporary Emergency Relief Administration (TERA) work relief project in 1933. Measuring 40' x 70', the limestone structure contains a concession stand, men's and women's restrooms, and a large reception room. The field house has been used during its history for organized play activities, music classes and a summer reading clinic run cooperatively with Syracuse University, as well as serving as headquarters for the Sherman Park Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading Organization. Recently, the Thornden Park Association modernized kitchen facilities in the concession stand and installed a security system in the facility. |
