Maple Sugaring
Maple Sugaring Back-to-Basics

Do you have a sugar maple tree? Are you thinking about making your own maple syrup? From mid-February to early March, CNE presents a simple hands-on maple sugaring demonstration. The one-hour outdoor program includes identifying maple trees, tapping the trees correctly, collecting sap, working an evaporator, to producing the final product - Maple Sugaringsweet tasting, natural maple syrup.

The history and importance of maple sugar to the livelihood of early pioneers as well as the steps in making maple syrup as the pioneers did are explained and demonstrated through various means including a video, outdoors hands-on activities and a blind taste test to see if you can tell the difference between real maple syrup and store bought, artificially sweeten pancake syrup (which in most cases do not contain any real maple syrup).

For dates and times, see upcoming programs.
